Now that the weather has dropped, the demand for the winter coat has risen. However, with all the various social engagements and other occasions where stylish outerwear is crucial to an outfit, a girl simply has to pick the right jacket! A coat can make any ensemble instantly fabulous. With a whole new variety of trendy jackets this term, no one has the excuse to look like a rotten Christmas Tree in January. Military Jacket
This style is definitely the season’s darling. Sturdy and strong, this type of jacket really pulls together an outfit. While many are in a traditional navy blue or black, a military jack in an unconventional color, say turquoise or a plaid, can make a look unique and stylish. While pricing for this type of jacket ranges widely, a good place to find a cool military jacket is the thrift store. If this look is good for the army boys, it’s good enough for a serious fashionista.

Puffer Jacket
If the military jacket is this season’s trendiest style, then the puffer jacket is by far the warmest option. Who could deny the insulation provided by thick layers of down? Furthermore, the former “bubble jacket” is now coming in a variety of shapes so that any one can looksmore shapely, and therefore fashionable, than bubbly. This style is a great option for someone who is looking for a jacket that is both warm but also conveys a sense of style and personality.
The Artistic Jacket
A more unconventional jacket is definitely not for the fashionably timid. This piece sends a message of sophistication but also of asceticism—it is hard to carry of this piece unless you see yourself as either an intellectual or a style icon. While some styles are certainly simpler (for example the wrap jacket by IRO), others are definitely for a person who is extremely confident in their sense of style. This is a very cool jacket style that is definitely more of a statement piece than a winter-time cover-up.
The Baby Doll Jacket
This is definitely the “it girl” coat for this season. Even over a pair of dirty grey sweatpants, this jacket is flirtatious yet edgy. A baby-doll overcoat is both warm and cute, and is the perfect choice for a New Years’ Eve bash or holiday soirée. Moreover, the great thing about this jacket is that is compliments both the skinny-leg jeans, the wide-leg jeans, and the variety of dress shapes that are trendy this season. A must have for the Winter 2007 party girl.
