Spotlight: MLT
May 3rd, 2007Management Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT) is a national non-profit organization that has made ground-breaking progress addressing the dramatic under-representation of minorities in leadership positions and in the institutions that develop top-notch talent, such as top-tier MBA programs and Fortune 50 companies. MLT, in close conjunction with partner organizations like McKinsey, Citi, Google, MTV Networks, GE, Yale School of Management, Harvard Business School and The Wharton School, gives young people the tools they need to accelerate their career trajectory and take themselves from good to great.
MLT has developed a unique Talent Development System, that goes beyond the traditional scholarship and internship approach to provide participants with the skills, personalized career map, experience, relationships and coaching they need to realize their career potential.
Many minorities entering the workforce after college graduation struggle because they are missing the hard and soft skills that are required of entry-level job applicants to top firms. While a student may have performed well academically, that may not translate directly into early career success. MLT’s Career Preparation program provides motivated college Juniors and seniors with a comprehensive program that, over a 12-month period, prepares them for fast-track entry-level positions at major firms upon graduation. Students work closely with a personal career coach, attend workshops with MLT’s corporate partners that set the bar for excellence, and build relationships with a high-performing peer community of like-minded students from 50+ colleges nationwide. As a result, over 90% of Career Prep participants attain internships and full-time jobs in the industry of their choice.
MLT’s MBA Preparation program helps young professionals who are interested in gaining admittance to a top business school. Over an 18-month period, MBA Prep fellows attend seminars at business schools and corporations and learn what it takes to succeed. MBA Prep is the number one source of minority students at the top 10 business schools; in fact, forty percent of the minority students at HBS and Wharton are MLT alumni.
As a result of MLT’s success, they have recently been featured as the Page 2 Cover of FORTUNE. To learn more about MLT and their programs, please visit www.ml4t.org or email Catherine Carrington at ccarrington@ml4t.org.
